Donte Perry
I am a doctoral student at NC State University, researching generative AI and community.

Welcome! I’m Donte Perry. As a first-year doctoral student, I’m passionate about education and information technology, and I believe in their power to transform learning.

My background combines the technical expertise of information technology with the instructional design skills of an educator, allowing me to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Empowering Learners Through Technology:

Throughout my career, I’ve developed engaging IT training programs, collaborated with faculty to enhance curriculum, and constantly explored emerging technologies. I’m proficient in various Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Canvas and Blackboard, ensuring a seamless learning experience for students.

Technical Expertise:

  • Technology Applications: I’m comfortable with content management systems (Drupal, Wix, SharePoint), databases (MySQL, Access, XAMPP), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Excel, Google Analytics).
  • Programming Languages: I have a strong foundation in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, allowing me to create interactive learning experiences.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • My experience includes fostering strong communication skills, collaborating effectively with individuals and groups, and actively participating in professional associations.

Teaching and Training:

  • Extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and utilizing online teaching tools like Canva and Blackboard empowers me to create engaging learning environments.

  • Pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (North Carolina State University, Expected Completion: May 2027)
  • Master of Science in Network Technology with a concentration in Digital Communications Technology (East Carolina University, Expected Completion: December 2026)
  • Master of Library Science & Master of Information Science (North Carolina Central University, May 2021)

Experience Highlights:

  • Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (Concord, NC) – Information Technology Faculty (January 2024 – Present):
    • Designed and delivered engaging courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) fundamentals, covering topics like machine learning and natural language processing.
    • Developed and teach courses in information technology, incorporating industry trends and best practices to enhance student learning.
    • Collaborated with colleagues to update and assess curriculum, participate in professional development activities, and contribute to program excellence through research.
    • Provided academic advising, mentorship, and leadership, fostering student success, workforce development, and community partnerships.
    • Established and advise the Technology Innovator Club (TIC), creating a supportive environment for students to explore their passion for technology.
  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill, NC) – Teaching with Primary Sources Fellow (May 2023 – February 2024):
    • Leveraged primary sources to develop engaging lesson plans, such as incorporating historical cookbooks into courses on American cuisine.

Beyond the Classroom:

My experience as a librarian at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Johnson & Wales University involved developing reference guides and bibliographies, collaborating with subject matter experts, and overseeing digital resource management. This experience strengthens my ability to curate information and create accessible learning resources.
