Generative AI: A Year Later – Panel Discussion at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

Continuing the Conversation: A Panel Reflects on Generative AI in Action

Last year, the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Summer Institute sparked a lively discussion about Generative AI (AI capable of creating new content) and its potential impact on colleges. This year, I had the privilege of participating in a follow-up panel discussion alongside esteemed colleagues who have been actively using Generative AI tools in their work.

The discussion focused on the college’s experiences with Generative AI over the past year. We shared our learnings, best practices, and the unexpected challenges we encountered along the way. Here are some key highlights:

  • Lessons Learned: Through active implementation, we gained valuable insights into how to effectively leverage Generative AI tools in the classroom. We’re excited to share these best practices with the broader educational community.
  • Impact on the College: The use of Generative AI has already begun to impact how we teach, how students learn, and how administrative processes are managed at the college. We’re seeing positive results and are eager to explore further applications.
  • Challenges Faced: No new technology comes without its hurdles. We openly discussed the unexpected challenges we faced and how we overcame them through collaboration and problem-solving.
  • The Future Potential: The possibilities for Generative AI in education are vast. The panel discussion explored promising avenues for further exploration and integration within the college setting.
